Direct cutting of hardened stainless steel with single crystal diamond tool was not possible for a long time due to high tool. Since 2011 son-x has commercialized the unique ultrasonic assisted diamond turning technique that does allow ultra precision machining of steel without nickel plating. We produce best in class optical mould inserts directly cut into stainless steel for automotive lighting, imaging, ophthalmic or other injection moulding applications.
The development of optical systems often requires practical testing of the theoretical optical components. Son-x offers quick turnaround for high quality prototype plastic lenses based on 3D/2D data. Once the optical system has been refined and confirmed by the prototype, we can scale the quantity into high volume.
Demanding applications such as defense require ultra high precision optics made of crystal materials like Silicon, Germanium or Zinc-Sulfide, among others.
